Narrating My Own Book

Bringing Rico’s Voice to Life

Audiobooks have revolutionized the way people experience stories. With our busy lives, many readers now prefer to listen rather than read. The immersive experience of hearing a story unfold brings characters to life in a unique way. That’s why I took on the challenge of narrating my own book, Not Your Father’s Mafia.

Why Audiobooks Matter More Than Ever

Over the last decade, audiobooks have surged in popularity. Many readers love the convenience of listening while driving, exercising, or relaxing. A well-narrated audiobook creates an intimate connection between the listener and the story. Every tone, pause, and inflection adds depth to the experience. It was important to me that Not Your Father’s Mafia had an authentic voice—so I decided to narrate it myself.

The Experience of Narrating Not Your Father’s Mafia

Stepping into the recording booth to narrate my own work was both exciting and challenging. I had to capture the emotions of each scene while staying true to the characters’ voices. One of the biggest challenges was embodying Rico, Tito’s love interest. Rico is charming, mysterious, and full of contradictions. Bringing him to life with just my voice required careful attention to pacing, tone, and emotion.

Finding Rico’s Voice

Rico is an enigma—an FBI agent navigating the dangerous world of the Barbarotti Crime Family while falling for Tito. His love for Tito is real, but his secrets could destroy everything. As I narrated his dialogue, I worked hard to capture his intensity, vulnerability, and passion. Listeners can hear the tension in his voice when he tries to balance duty with love. They can feel his desperation when everything begins to unravel.

The Power of an Author-Narrated Audiobook

When an author narrates their own work, the experience becomes deeply personal. No one knows the characters better than the person who created them. Every pause, emphasis, and nuance aligns with the original vision of the story. In Not Your Father’s Mafia, I wanted to ensure that listeners could fully immerse themselves in the journey of Tito and Rico. Every whispered confession and every heated argument is delivered exactly as I intended it to be felt.

Why You Should Listen to the Audiobook

If you love crime thrillers mixed with passionate romance, this audiobook is for you. Not Your Father’s Mafia isn’t just about mobsters and power—it’s about love, trust, and the risks we take for the people who matter most. If you’ve read the book, experiencing it in audio form will bring a whole new layer to the story. And if you haven’t read it yet, this is the perfect way to dive in.

Share Your Thoughts

I want to hear from you! If you’ve listened to the audiobook, let me know what you think. Did the narration bring the characters to life? Did Rico’s voice sound the way you imagined? Your feedback means everything to me.

Also, if you enjoy my narration, check out my other audiobook, Pushed Out of the Closet Without a Parachute. I personally narrated my entire memoir to ensure its authenticity. That audiobook also features three original songs that I wrote and performed in the 1980s. Both audiobooks are available for direct purchase through my website.

Audiobooks create a special kind of magic. I hope you’ll take this journey with me and experience narrating my own book, Not Your Father’s Mafia, in a whole new way
