Gunther Allen
Gunther Allen—Being an author didn’t happen overnight. It took years of heartache, joy, and experience to craft the stories I tell today. Throughout my journey, I’ve embraced many roles that shaped my identity and fueled my passion for storytelling. I earned a bachelor’s degree in music from Long Beach State and pursued a musical path across continents and stages. In Long Beach, I co-wrote a musical that performed across Los Angeles, showcasing my creative vision.
In 1988, I proudly competed for the LGBTQIA+ community in the NAGVA North American Gay Volleyball Association Championships in Montreal. The following year, I won 1st place in water polo at the Vancouver International Gay and Lesbian Aquatic Championships. Inspired by my love for sports and community, I founded Orange Juice Aquatics, a gay swim team in Laguna Beach. As both a coach and swimmer, I led our team to victory at the 1994 Gay Games.
My Fledgling Career
I explored music, web publishing, photography, and graphic arts as my career grew. I earned a certificate in Web Publishing and Graphic Arts in Chicago. Over time, I applied my skills to various industries, including chiropractic consulting, adult entertainment, and the Texas Center for the Judiciary. For the past 13 years, I have served as the Director of Marketing and Design at Austin Rare Coins & Bullion.
I’ve remained committed to supporting the LGBTQIA+ community and those affected by HIV/AIDS. I volunteered as an AIDS support buddy, offering companionship and practical help. I also led the creation of a Christmas Gift Basket program for AIDS patients and individuals with serious illnesses through Laguna Shanti. This program brought comfort and joy to those in need during the holidays.
Now, as a debut writer, I draw from my experiences to craft stories celebrating the resilience, diversity, and compassion of the LGBTQIA+ community. Through my writing, I amplify LGBTQIA+ voices, foster empathy, and inspire conversations about the human experience.
